Your data, and what AtlasRU does with it.
Last updated July 6, 2026.
AtlasRU is a course planning and advising tool for Rutgers students. Here’s what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
Account: your email, and your name/photo if you sign in with Google. If you use a password instead, we store it salted and hashed, never in plain text.
Academic info:your major, campus, and grad year, plus your courses and grades if you import a transcript (pasted text or a .txt/.csv/.pdf). Files and screenshots are converted to text in your browser and then discarded, we don’t keep the original.
Schedule and seat monitors: the sections you add or import, and if you ask us to watch a section for an open seat, that section, your alert email, and your push subscription if you enable notifications.
Social:friend connections, your privacy settings (like hiding your schedule from friends), and event RSVPs. Event listings come from Rutgers’ public getINVOLVED directory, not from you.
Referrals and usage logs: whether someone signed up with your referral code, and standard server logs (IP, browser, timestamps) for security and debugging.
How we use it
We use this info to run the app: building your degree audit, showing your schedule, watching seats, and connecting you with friends.
Atlas (AI Advisor):when you message Atlas, we send your message and relevant academic context (courses, schedule, progress) to third-party AI providers to generate a response. Avoid sharing highly sensitive info here unless it’s necessary.
We keep your data as long as your account is active.
Your choices
- Stop watching a section or disable push notifications anytime.
- Control who sees your schedule and location in Social settings.
- Request your data or delete your account via the bug icon in the sidebar.
Security and kids
Traffic is encrypted (HTTPS) and passwords are salted and hashed. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions. AtlasRU isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
We’ll update the date above if anything material changes. Questions? Use the bug icon in the app, it reaches us directly.
